Based on the large unused potential for welfare innovation, the project wants to develop practice-oriented learning activities. High-cost technology investments end up not being employed by the institutions and centres of healthcare. The technology is left as unused hardware. In the long-term it can lead to unredeemed expectations on the part of citizens, as wells as students or employees, who never get the opportunity to use their competences or innovative ideas. By combining education and training of employees with workplace development and practice reflection, we wish to demonstrate how we can get much further in relation to an implementation that will survive with this project. Eight partners (from six countries) have joined forces. By exchanging good practices, these partners, with very different experiences with welfare innovation methods, wish to create a solid foundation for future improvements in VET courses that support changing practises in the social and health programmes.
The target group consists of students or employees working at social and health care workplaces and their managers. As a secondary target group we will include suppliers of services (private or public suppliers of health or social services), where the employees are employed, which could also achieve service improvements in respect of citizens that will benefit from the technology being introduced in consonance with new practice and relationship formation.
In the project, we will work with solutions in relation to welfare innovation by meeting the needs described in the following. Thus, we wish to:
- create a strong connection between what a student/participant learns during an education and training course and the learning in practice/practice implementation that takes place at a workplace;
- identify the central learning targets that will enable employees to become actors within welfare innovation. In this respect, we specifically wish to formulate one or two learning outcomes in connection with welfare innovation, which can become joint guidelines for EU countries and part of the existing framework for 'Mobility modules for professionals in social and healthcare'. These mobility modules were developed under the LDV Network Project EREIVET, which had 16 participants from eight different countries (http://www.ereivet.net/index.php/da/).
The framework describes seven learning outcomes that need to be fulfilled when you participate in mobility modules within healthcare and seven learning outcomes that also need to be fulfilled when you participate in mobility modules within social and health care. They include a series of related competence questions for students or adult participants in the mobility programmes that corresponds with these learning outcomes, and serve as outcomes for the exchange visit in question.
In connection with the developed learning targets for welfare innovation, the project will identify the associated learning targets for teachers and consultants (staff) at the VET colleges.
- Based on the exchange of experiences between the individual partner countries, the project will present a number of exemplary concepts for courses that can be developed as a means to fulfil the above-mentioned learning outcomes. The exemplary concepts will be based on the existing experiences in the participating partner countries and present templates/concepts for new learning that transcends sectors.
The project is carried out as a European project as it is based on an existing and well-functioning collaboration among some of the partners who have turned out to have a common and unifying interest in connection with welfare innovation. Moreover, the individual partners have their own SPECIAL experiences and competences, and each of them can contribute to new and innovative models. For example, one partner has strong competences and experience with gamification. Another partner is working with development of didactic models for how to train and develop employee competences in connection with animal therapy in a care facility or rehabilitation centre. Another partner has professional insight into reinforcing competences in relation to working with meals for people who due to illness do not eat enough. Finally, a partner has a welfare technological laboratory used for teaching purposes. Moreover, all partners have a number of partners in each country who can be visited, including a range of innovation labs (e.g. Herlev Hospital and SOSU C college in Herlev). These key competences will be shared and developed even more in two models through interdisciplinary and inter-European exchange of knowledge. The aim is that future students in European educational institutions avoid work environment stress and can attain some suitable competences and skills to handle the problems they encounter when they are introduced to and use new technologies in the primary and secondary sector.
